When shopping for an authentic item look for the name or the logo of the licensing organization.  This can be printed on the label or embroidered directly onto the garment.  This is not the team logo, but the official league name such as the NFL, UEFA, NHL, etc.  Major manufacturer brands also will usually have the financial backing for the licensing of "official" or authentic football shirts and accessories.  These brands could include, Nike, Reebok, Hummel, or more.  If the clothing is manufactured by a Chinese or off brand, be suspicious as it might be a knock off. 

It's also important to purchase your collectable authentic sports jersey from a reputable dealer.  Think about it.  If you are the Olympic committee, would you want your official products sold at a flea market or E-bay?  Licensing of authentic products is supposed to ensure the integrity and quality of a team logo products.  For that reason, the major leagues on deal with distributors that supply reputable merchants.
